ThriveCart review

Checkout, funnels and affiliate carts for creators.

By Dana Rourke, Lead reviewer. Reviewed by Campaign Buyer Editorial. Updated 8 September 2026.

Our verdict

ThriveCart is the checkout to pick if you sell courses or digital products and want a capable cart at a flat, buy-once price. It leans on whichever processor you connect for the actual money, so it cannot route payments to a second account, cannot serve high-risk sellers, and only adds its own dunning on the Pro+ tier.

ThriveCart is a creator's cart, and a well-liked one. Its reputation was built on a lifetime price you pay once and a checkout that converts: order bumps, one-click upsells, split-tested pages and an affiliate centre that course and digital-product sellers lean on. If you sell a handful of mainstream offers and want a cart you buy outright, it is a sensible pick.

Where it sits on this site's four checkout criteria is simple, because it delegates most of them. Payments run through the one processor you connect, so nothing spreads across accounts and nothing falls back when a card is declined. High-risk business is out, because the gateways behind it ban it and ThriveCart cannot work around that. How hard a failed payment is retried depends on which processor you chose, and it varies a lot. Its own reminder emails are a Pro+ feature, and disputes are left to whichever gateway took the money, so it brings no chargeback tooling of its own.

None of that is a flaw for a course seller, which is who it is built for. It is simply the reason it is not the tool for someone routing ad traffic to high-risk offers across more than one account. For that job it ranks third here, behind ElasticFunnels on routing and behind Paddle on hands-off compliance.

Pros and cons

What works

  • A lifetime licence has long been the draw, so nothing recurring lands on your bill once you have bought in
  • Creator-focused cart features are strong: order bumps, one-click upsells, split-tested checkouts and a built-in affiliate centre
  • Connects Stripe, PayPal or Authorize.Net and adds nothing of its own on top of the processor's fee
  • Once on Pro+ it adds its own reminder emails, subscription analytics and deeper reporting

What to watch

  • The money runs through the one processor you connect, so a declined card has no second account to fall back to
  • No high-risk support either. The big gateways all bar those categories, and ThriveCart cannot work around the ban
  • How hard a failed payment is retried is the processor's job. Authorize.Net does not retry at all, and ThriveCart's own reminders need the Pro+ tier
  • Disputes sit with the processor, not with ThriveCart, so it brings no dedicated chargeback tooling to lean on

What buyers keep saying

Research: unverified

The 'lifetime deal' stopped being a lifetime deal in April 2025

ThriveCart's entire market position is the one-time payment, and that claim is now only true of the $495 Standard tier. In April 2025 the one-time $195 Pro upgrade was discontinued and replaced by Pro+ at $295 per year. The features that moved behind that recurring fee are not cosmetic: affiliate management, automated sales tax, dunning for failed payments, custom checkout domains. A seller who needs those pays roughly $985 in year one and $295 every year after, which is a subscription by any other name. This directly contradicts the marketing a buyer is most likely to encounter, because the affiliate reviews that rank for 'ThriveCart' still describe it as one-time forever.

“Every ThriveCart review says the same thing. Pay $495 once, use it forever, no recurring fees. That was true until April 2025. ThriveCart replaced the old Pro upgrade (a $195 one-time payment) with Pro+. Pro+ costs $295 per year. The $495 lifetime deal is real. But calling the full ThriveCart experience a 'lifetime deal' is a stretch when $295 of it renews every year.”

“The new 'Pro+' tools are for some a welcome addition but for me, neat but without much substance. What does raise some eyebrows is the sneaky new annual pricing on their pro package. What was once a lifetime deal, is now, sadly, an annual payment (plus tax). There is, at the time of writing, no indication of how existing Pro accounts will be affected...”

It genuinely works, and pays for itself, for simple one off sales ↑ frequently praised

The positive case is real and specific rather than vague. Sellers running courses, coaching and events describe the absence of a monthly fee as the thing that makes the economics work, with one reporting over $120K processed in a twelve-month period and no platform trouble. The consistent shape of the praise is that ThriveCart is good at the narrow job of a checkout page with order bumps and upsells bolted onto an existing stack, not that it is a good business suite.

“Thrivecart has been a VERY cost-effective blessing for our business (retreats, courses, coaching), and we generated over $120K using the platform over a 12-month period.”

Subscriptions are where it breaks, and the failure mode costs revenue ↓ common complaint

The most serious complaint is not a missing feature but a correctness bug: sellers report the subscription logic cancelling active paying customers on its own. For a checkout tool this is the worst possible defect, because the loss is silent, lands on the customer relationship rather than the dashboard, and is discovered after the money has stopped. Sellers running recurring revenue tell others outright not to use it. Read this against the pricing change: dunning, the feature that recovers failed subscription payments, is also the feature now locked behind the recurring Pro+ fee.

“Constant bugs, confusing design, and subscription features that literally cancel paying customers automatically. It's cost me money, time, and customer trust. If you run a subscription business, don't use ThriveCart.”

Support is slow precisely when a checkout outage is live ↓ common complaint

Sellers describe two-to-three day replies with no mechanism to mark a ticket urgent, so ThriveCart decides what counts as an emergency. The stakes are asymmetric in a way they are not for most software: a broken checkout is lost revenue for every hour it is broken, and a launch cannot be rescheduled around a support queue. Notably this complaint comes from users who say they want to like the product, which suggests a support gap rather than general dissatisfaction.

“ThriveCart say that they monitor their support inbox around the clock in case of urgent problems, but there's no way to let them know your problem is urgent... By the time they respond to my inquiries, it's 2-3 days down the line, and what good does that do for urgent issues? Again, I really want to love them, but I'm at my wits' end.”
