You have heard a renewal story and you want to know whether SamCart will do that to you. The complaints that keep showing up are real, and most of them match rules SamCart already prints. Surprise renewals, refused refunds and the jump to the higher plan are the pattern. Most of the write-ups are about the bill. Very few say the checkout page itself broke. If you still want the product, open the full SamCart review. The billing and refund rules are below.
SamCart is a hosted checkout platform. The homepage says "Join 75,000+ businesses that trust SamCart." At that scale, a billing complaint is mostly a question about the written policy. Prices and cancellation rules come from the terms, the pricing page and the cancellation guide. The stories come from Trustpilot, Capterra and two Reddit threads.
Billing and renewals
A Trustpilot review describes a $7 course bought in March 2025, a full year of access, and a $239 charge attempt in March 2026. The reviewer calls that attempt a surprise. The first charge was low. The second attempt came a year later.
Another Trustpilot page, further into the same reviews, says an automatic renewal was charged. Those stories run into SamCart's terms. Monthly subscriptions are not eligible for a refund. An annual plan paid up front can be considered only when the request is within 30 days of the original purchase, and that same clause says refunds are not guaranteed.
If you have more than one active subscription, the cancellation guide says to cancel each one separately. A course or a training product and the platform plan can be two lines on the Billing page. Closing one leaves the other running. That is how someone can think they quit and still see a charge.
Refunds and the cancellation window
The terms say you must submit your cancellation request at least 5 days before your next billing date. For a bill on the 1st, the request has to arrive by the 26th of the previous month. After that, the charge will still go through. If you cancel during a billing period you have already paid for, the terms say you will not receive a prorated refund.
Refund questions go to billing@samcart.com. The guide gives that address for qualifying refunds, which sends you back to the narrow cases in the contract. Once you cancel a legacy plan from the Billing page, you cannot turn that plan back on. The help article says that click cannot be undone.
My take: I would set a calendar reminder for the cancellation deadline during the first week the account is open. Once a monthly charge has gone through, you do not get that money back under the terms. Asking for a courtesy reversal is a weaker plan than sending the request early. An annual plan paid up front is the only plan eligible for a refund under the terms, and only shortly after the original purchase.
SamCart problems that are a plan mismatch
Order bumps, one-click upsells, Subscription Saver, A/B testing and the Affiliate Center are included in Pro. The plan guide lists one-click upsells on Pro only. Third-party payment processors are on Pro as well. A buyer on the entry plan who cannot find an upsell is on the tier the pricing page describes. The upsell feature is on the Pro plan.
The pricing page shows three cards. Core and Pro are the self-serve pair, Pro is marked most popular, and the Done For You plan asks you to book a call. Yearly billing is the discounted toggle on that page.
A Reddit thread on order upgrades calls this pricing crazy expensive. A reply on a ThriveCart comparison says a stack does not make sense at $300 or more per month per business. Those buyers are counting a landing page builder and SamCart together. Unbounce together with SamCart is one example of that stack. The complaint is about the total cost, and Pro is why that total rises once you want the upsell.
Support when the money is stuck
Two Capterra reviews supply the support comments cited here, and both are old. One, from 2021, says support is email-only with a significant delay. Another, on the next page of reviews and dated 2020, says customer support seems spotty and slow at times. They describe support when a billing or setup problem is blocking the account. That is when a renewal complaint hurts. These comments date from 2020 and 2021.
The checkout comments point somewhere else. On that same order-upgrade thread, a commenter calls SamCart no frills but fine. For someone running paid ads, that line matters. The checkout page itself draws few complaints in these reports. The frustration comes from the charge after the sale and from waiting on email support.
The harsh report and the kinder one
The Trustpilot renewal above is the critical report: a cheap course, a year of access, then a much larger charge attempt. The Reddit line above is the kinder report: a checkout described as plain and workable. People running paid ads usually care about that checkout page, because that is where the ad traffic lands. A strict billing policy can still be the reason you wish you had not subscribed, even when the checkout form works.
What to settle before you pay
Count the subscriptions you would actually turn on. The platform plan is one. A course, a training product or an add-on can be a second subscription, and each one has to be cancelled separately. Decide before the trial whether you need the bump and the post-purchase offer. If you need them, budget for Pro. The entry price leaves those tools out.
Then choose monthly or annual with the refund clause in mind. On a monthly plan, a processed charge is not refunded. An annual plan paid up front has a short stretch after the original purchase where a refund can be considered, and the terms still do not promise one. The address for that question is the billing mailbox in the cancellation guide.
Where to go from here
If the monthly bill is what worries you, read SamCart vs ThriveCart and SamCart vs Gumroad. ThriveCart charges a one-time fee. Gumroad takes no monthly fee and a cut of each sale. The order bumps and upsells page explains a bump and a post-purchase offer. Wider platform swaps are on the funnel builder alternatives page. The methodology page explains how vendor sites and user reports are read here.
